Today's Native Americans/American Indians are believed to descend from groups that migrated across a land bridge connecting Asia to North America, known as Beringia, which exists now beneath the Bering Sea. This migration is supported by archaeological evidence and genetic studies indicating that early human populations traveled from Siberia across this land bridge during the last Ice Age, when sea levels were lower.

The land bridge allowed these populations to support their migration into new territories, leading to a diverse range of cultures and societies that developed across North America over thousands of years. This explanation aligns with anthropological and historical studies that trace the origins of indigenous peoples in North America.

The other choices do not align with established historical and archaeological evidence regarding the migration and descent of Native Americans. For instance, the notion of wooden ships or horseback migration is not supported as traditional means of travel for these populations during their initial migrations to North America. Additionally, Chief Powhatan was a historical figure from a much later period and does not connect to the origins of Native American ancestry.
